The hotel’s culinary options include a buffet restaurant with a wide variety of dishes, as well as themed restaurants which will satisfy your palate with the best international cuisine. This luxury hotel is located directly beside the fine sandy beach in Cancún's hotel district. A selection of bars and restaurants as well as a shopping centre are to be found in the near vicinity. “We stayed at Riu Cancun from December 17 to December 25. Overall, it was an excellent experience.Restaurants In terms of food, there is a fair amount of selection but I would personally stick to eating at the buffet over the restaurants they have (in particular, I would avoid the Japanese restaurant for it was unauthentic). A big shoutout to Samuel, the host from Turquesa for always giving a hundred percent by being attentive to hotel guests and making our stay memorable.Staff In general, all the hotel staff are diligent and amicable. I would like to give credit to Melissa at the front desk for being efficient with changing our rooms, as they happened to give us the wrong room not associated with the same class as our package, despite having to wait a day.Cleanliness The rooms are always very clean but in terms of towels and/or toiletries distribution, there definitely needs to be a standardization as the number of towels we received every day was different. We always had to put in a request for a foot towel. All housekeeping requests can be done through the Riu app as you can’t reach the front desk through the room phone.PCR Test The PCR test at the hotel is only available from 9 AM to 12:55 PM every day, but this information is not displayed anywhere.Complaint to the Manager A few days prior to departure, we did a PCR test at the hotel. Believing it was the most trustworthy of choices in comparison to doing it outside, the process was surprisingly unprofessional and unreliable. Not only did I not receive an email after testing, but when I went back to the testing counter the next day to follow up on this matter, I was told that the laboratory staff was unavailable for the day. It was a tedious back and forth procedure which contributed to an increased amount of anxiety having to leave the very next day. When we eventually received our reports, the laboratory got the age wrong on one of our reports. What the lab should have really done is have the customers double-check the information on their computers before submitting it.We had one of the front desk staff call the manager to address this problem. He did not introduce himself by name nor did he ask for ours, which should be the fundamental basics of what a manager should do. He merely apologized and while addressing that it is not their problem but the laboratory’s, it should still be the responsibility of a big brand like Riu to ensure that whatever is operated on their grounds to be reliable and trustworthy.In addition, the manager claims to have the revised reports be printed and given to us by midnight by slipping them under our door, but I had to then personally ask the front desk myself to print them out as it never happened. He also claimed to CC me in an email to the laboratory to file a complaint but again this was not followed through. He initially asked me to do this myself, which clearly already demonstrated his insincerity to customer concerns.I sincerely hope that no customers will have to undergo the same experiences as I have aforementioned above regarding COVID testing and that the manager will solemnly do something about how customers’ issues are addressed; not just swept under the rug. If promises are made to do something, they should be followed through. This does not set a good example for the rest of the hotel staff, as problems, regardless of how big or small are crucial steps into ensuring that the reputation of a large hotel chain is maintained.”
